How to mute people in the Island Experiment chat

Most people have access to the FB-provided chat on the right side of the screen when you're playing the game in your browser through Facebook, or on the left side of the screen if you're playing in Gameroom. Unfortunately, on the World Wide Web, there are always the occasional trolls (trouble-makers) and scammers. The only thing that does any good with these people is to just mute them in the chat room so that you never see them again. WARNING: muting can be undone for a short while, but once the spot you muted rolls off the chat log, it is permanent and cannot be undone. If the person you want to mute is a real person and you can get their FB profile link, you are better off to go to their FB profile and use FB's "block" feature. This has two benefits: 1) It can be undone at any time if you change your mind and 2) FB blocking means that neither person can see the other one. Just muting in chat only works one way... you can't see what that person is saying, but they can still see what you are saying.

Here is how to mute someone just in the chat, best used on anonymous trolls and scammers. These pictures are from the browser, but it works exactly the same way in the Gameroom chat. (Click the pictures to enlarge them if you can't see the details well enough.)

First, you have to hover your mouse over the top portion of the person's message. Once you do that, you will see an X pop up on the right side. You cannot see this X until you have hovered over the message for a moment. Place your cursor over the X, and it will turn into a hand instead of a pointer, and a bubble pops up that says "Hide". Click the X.

Next, you'll see that the person's whole message disappears, but you're not done yet. You will see three words... Unhide, Mute, Report. Click "mute" and now that person is muted in the chat room - you will never see anything else from that account again. (There is no guarantee that they won't come back with another account.) You can also choose "report" and then the "mute" if you like, but it won't do any good. Facebook does not monitor these chats in any way. Our only options are to ignore them or to mute them.

This part is VERY important! After you have clicked "mute", look at it one more time. That spot will now say " ____ has been muted. Undo". Check that name very carefully and make sure it's the right person! Sometimes when chat is very busy, just as you click the X, it jumps to a new person and you click the wrong message. So always check that name, and if you got the wrong person, click "undo" then go up to the right one and try again.

Common terms in Island Experiment

Not in alphabetical order, but here is a list of common terms and some alternate names for things in the game:

XP: Short for "experience points". These are the yellow and green stars that you see floating off as you clear, harvest and gather resources, or by collecting from certain decorations. Also earned for finishing every quest. XP increases your level and you can see your XP by hovering over your level bar in the top left, under your name.

Wish List: your list of items you currently are requesting. Read this page for information on seeing your own list, and this page for sending items on other peoples' lists. You may see this in chat as "WL" for short.

Gift Box/In Box: The "boy with present" icon in the lower left. This is where all your gifts arrive, both the heart coins and the gifts of game resources. See this page for more information. Sometimes abbreviated as GB in chat.

Friendship Coins/Heart Coins: The round coins with a heart on them that you can send and receive for free every day. Max of 250 coins received, max of 250 coin points when you send out your daily coins. You can spend these in the shop.

Shop: Hammer and saw icon in the lower right corner. Contains all the game buildings plus shops for spending stamps, doubloons, and heart coins.

Delivery Hut/Market: Lower left corner, looks like a tiki bar, sort of. This is where you make all your deliveries. See this page for more information.

Teepee: Large teepee tent, given to you in your inventory when you first start making deliveries to the delivery hut. You can place it anywhere you like on the island, so make sure you remember where you put it. You spend your native coins here.

Dragon/Golden Dragon: A statue from the shop (2nd page of the 2nd tab) that uses gold bars to upgrade it. Gives XP, beauty points, and helps you earn the rabbit pet and the fox cub pet. VERY expensive!

Gold Bars: Used primarily to upgrade the dragon, but also for deliveries. Cheapest to make 1 at a time, not the 5 or 10 at a time options. Abbreviated as "GBs" or just "gold" in chat.

Inventory: The chest icon in the lower right corner. You can use it to move items from the main island to the deco island and back again, and you can also use it for storage of buildings and decorations that you don't want to place anywhere. Inventory will only hold certain things, not everything. Inventory will also hold free food from the daily rewards on the Official Page if your warehouse is full when you pick it up.

Warehouse: The building icon in the lower right corner. This is where all of your resources are stored. Abbreviated as "WH" in chat.

Pet section: Paw print icon in the lower left corner. Shows you all the animal collections.

Yellows: Yellow crystals

Pinks or Purples: Pink crystals

Blues: Blue crystals

Greens: Green crystals

Whites:  White crystals

Bullets: Artillery shells, as they are called in the game... but bullets is shorter to type. Also less chance of confusion with the seashells.

Critters: The assorted random animals that pop up while harvesting and clearing. Takes 5 food to smack them away.

Rats: If you smack 200 rats (see "critters" above) then you earn the kitty cat pet. NOT related to rat skins, and the rat traps do not help you with rats.

Rat skins: Harvested from the rat traps. They have nothing to do with the rats needed for the kitty pet. Also called just "skins" in chat.

Coins: Usually the regular game coins that are counted in the upper right corner. Sometimes called "spider coins" since they have a spider on them.

Doubloons: Coins with a face on them, has the tongue sticking out. Primarily earned on the arch islands, but can be found occasionally from other rewards. You'll see it spelled many different ways in chat, unfortunately. You spend them in the shop on decorations that produce coins or XP.

Stamps: Earned primarily during the 15 day events, but occasionally from other rewards. Spend these in the shop on decorations that produce coins or XP.

Native Coins: Earned by doing deliveries in the delivery hut. Has a picture of a ziggurat on them. Spend these in the teepee on decorations that earn you coins or XP, or more potion bottles for the delivery hut totem meter.

Totem/totem meter: The meter in the delivery hut that gives out rewards. See this page for more information.

Festival: A "Festival of Deliveries" happens about once per month, on average. See this page for an example Festival.

Event: A 15 day special side event. These are strictly voluntary, you can skip them if you prefer, but they do give good rewards. These cannot be repeated, once they're over, they're gone.

Bonus Island: The 6th island of the 15 day events. This island does not have a final reward like the first 5 does; it is a place to continue picking up stamps and unhexing items to turn in for additional rewards and upgrades.

Arch/Arch island: Side islands that are accessed via the map icon in the lower left corner. Also voluntary, but they do give rewards, just not as good as the 15 day events. These can be repeated if you pay gems to start them over. (Any rewards you earned in previous attempts cannot be earned again.)

Expeditions: The game's name for the arches. Your "expedition ranking" is the large yellow star to the right of your name, and shows how many stars you have earned while playing the arch islands. (Note: nobody in chat or the help groups calls arches "expeditions".)

Frags:  Short for "fragments", which are dug up in the dig sites.

Arts: Short for "artifacts", which are made in the restorers.

Batts: Short for "batteries".

Chemical Solution: You'll see this sometimes in your game notifications on Facebook. This just means you've received a daily heart coin gift from someone playing on their mobile app. The name is old wording and old coding left over from the previous mobile app gifts.

How to do deliveries in Island Experiment

The delivery hut in the game has several purposes :

1. Chests that you earn are opened for rewards ranging from simple coins and food up to expensive resources and puzzle pieces for the Jungle Collection pets.

2. Each delivery earns you potion bottles and native coins. The potion bottles fill the reward totem meter on the left of the hut window, and the native coins can be spent in the teepee shop on decorative items that earn you either coins or experience points.

3. Filling the totem meter on the left earns you rewards of coins, native coins, gems, and puzzle pieces for the Monkey in the Jungle Collection.

The hut seems complicated at first, but it's really not. First of all, just click on the delivery hut in the lower left corner of your screen. It cannot be moved, so it will be in the same place on everyone's island:

Once inside, you will see a lot of things. There are 4 slots at the bottom, those are where the chests will go. First, you need to look to see what items your delivery is requesting. This can be any item, up to 4 different things, in random amounts. The types of items and the number requested has nothing to do with what type of chest you will get as a reward - it's all determined by a random generator. In this case, the delivery I'm being asked for is 2 fragments, 20 bullets, and 15 bamboo. The game will never ask you for an item that you do not have access to yet. You will also notice above the delivery items that there is a countdown timer. Each delivery request is only good for 6 hours. If you do not send the items within 6 hours, the request will swap over to a new set of items. If you don't want to do the delivery that's shown, you can either let the time run out or you can click the yellow circle button and pay gems to change the items to a new set. There is no guarantee that the next delivery request will be any easier, so it's better not to spend your gems on a delivery refresh.

(One of the VIP bonuses that is available is the ability to change out one or more deliveries per day for free. You can earn this bonus by making gem purchases with real money in the game.)

Since there is an empty slot at the bottom of the hut window, if I make the delivery listed above, it will fill that slot with one of three chests:

Wooden: takes 3 hours to open - ONLY contains coins and food, and occasionally a red panda or panther puzzle piece.

Gold: takes 8 hours to open - contains coins, and usually small amounts of two medium-level resources like irite, ore, water, etc. Occasionally contains a red panda or panther puzzle piece.

Purple: takes 12 hours to open and contains coins, and high level resources like axes, dynamite, etc. and usually (but NOT always) contains a red panda or panther puzzle piece. Sometimes they will contain two puzzle pieces.

Once you have one or more chests in the bottom slots, you need to choose one to open. Only one at a time can be opened. During the day, if you can actively play, it's better to open 3 or 8 hour chests, and save the 12 hour ones for overnight,

Now look at the rewards section in the middle... in the picture, you'll see that my delivery will reward me with 9 potion bottles, 28 native coins, and 1 random chest in the slot below. The potion bottles are essentially "points" that are added to the totem on the left. You will not see them anywhere in the game, such as the warehouse... they are just points added to the totem. If you do not have a chest slot open, you will only see a potion bottle number and a native coin number. You cannot receive a chest if all 4 slots are filled when you send a delivery. The amount of potion bottles and native coins is different for each delivery, but generally are in the range of 7-11 potions and 25-30 native coins.

The left side of the screen is called your totem, or your meter, and you have to fill it to earn the rewards listed. In the early days, before you earn your monkey, the totem will have puzzle pieces for it. Generally, from top to bottom, the rewards will be a gem, a monkey puzzle piece, some coins, then another monkey puzzle piece at the top. Once you earn all the monkey pieces, the rewards will be as shown in my pictures.

If you look closely, you will see that the bottom 3 rewards have a line next to the picture of the reward. When your meter hits that line, you earn that reward and it immediately goes to the appropriate place. To earn the top reward, you have to fill the meter completely. Your next reward will also flash gently, so you know which one is next.

Below the meter is a picture of the potion bottles and # / # count. The first number is how many potion bottles you have earned all total during your time doing deliveries, and the second number is how many you need all total to reach the top of the meter.

See below for a potion count for each level. (Bottom of the page)

When you first start doing deliveries, the 4 "eyes" at the top of the totem are unlit and empty. Each trip to the top of the meter will add one light until all four are lit. These "eyes" mean nothing, there are no rewards for filling them. Just ignore them.

The puzzle pieces for the monkey are ONLY earned by filling the totem meter, while the red panda and panther pieces can ONLY be found by opening chests.

Special tip: If you get sacred leaves in your delivery request, you do not have to pick them from the sacred trees. Gather all your other supplies in the delivery, and when you're ready to send it, go ahead and click "Send". It will tell you that you don't have enough and then offer to "sell" the  leaves to you for 0 (yes, zero) gems. Accept the offer, and it will fill in the missing leaves for you free of charge, and send the delivery. This is not a glitch, it is an official work-around for some players who do not have sacred trees, and we all benefit from it.

There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do deliveries, but generally speaking, most people find the most success with only sending deliveries when a slot is open at the bottom. If you send a delivery when all slots are filled, you DO get the potion bottles and the native coins listed, which means that your totem meter does go up. But you lose the chance at earning a puzzle piece from the chest if you send a delivery with no chest slot open. Ultimately, the decision is up to you.

There is one other way to earn potion bottles to fill the meter a tiny bit faster without having to do deliveries. The eagle statue and moon statue from the teepee shop can be purchased with native coins, and they spit out potion bottles every few hours and are added to your totem meter.

In addition to the regular deliveries, about once a month, there is a Festival of Deliveries. (Here is the one from February 2017.) During a Festival, you will still be able to earn regular chests, but you also get the special festival chests which give you the points and rewards specific to that Festival. During a Festival, you will notice that you only have one totem meter item showing underneath the festival chest slot. Don't worry, all your regular rewards are still present... there just isn't room to show all of them, so it only shows the most recent one that you are working toward. If you complete that totem reward, the meter will change to show you the next thing from your regular meter.

Level 1 totem: 60 potions
Level 2: 450
Level 3: 1250
Level 4: 2250
Each level from 4 and up increases by 1000 potions. Add a "2" to the value of the thousands place, and that will tell you what level you're on even when all the eyes re filled up. For example, right now my meter needs 10,250 to be filled completely, so that means I'm on my 12th fill of the totem.

Isles of Love event February 2017 Island Experiment

Where do I get the chocolate candy "food" for the event?

It's added automatically, there is no need to collect. You get one candy every 5 minutes, and your timer is in the upper right corner of your screen. You get a free refill of 60 candies once per day.

Where do I get the "bombs" to clean the poisoned water?

You get a big group of them every 8 hours by clicking on the "get gifts" icon on the right side of your screen. When the 8 hours is up, the words change to "free gifts". The 8 hour gift can be picked up on the main event island OR on your regular main island.

You get a random amount of 1-4 from the assorted bomb factories which are scattered across the quest islands. There is nowhere on the main event island to pick them up, except for the first one during the tutorial.

NOTE: Clear as many factories from island 1 as you possibly can before moving on to island 2. Island 2 is very stingy with factories in the early stages, and you will get stuck very quickly if you don't have those bombs on hand. The last step on 1 is to serve coffee to the 4 cupids, so grab the factories before you do that last step.

Where do I exchange bombs to try to get colors I'm missing?

Right here on the main event island, and here is a tutorial on exchanging:

Where do I get the love potions to turn in to Ires?

Every time you clear a "poisoned water" spot, you get 1-2 love potions.

Where do I turn in these love potions for rewards?

Where do I pick up the 4 hour boxes of stamps on the main event island?

Just below the exchanger:

Don't forget to check the Official Page (link at the bottom of the game screen) every morning for free bombs or stamps!

How do I fix my friend bar in Island Experiment?

Many people do not give the game the proper permissions when first installing the game, and therefore the game cannot access their friend list on Facebook. This results in no FB friends showing on the friend bar. Neighbors will show, but not friends.

Occasionally, the game will glitch and remove the friend bar, for no apparent reason.

If you're having this problem, the fix is a simple one.

First, go to Facebook's Game Management Page. On that page, you will see an icon for Island Experiment. Look below it and you will see a gear wheel. Click that, and a box will pop up.

Look down at the bottom of the box, and you will see "Remove App". Click that, and it will remove the game from your Facebook. Don't worry! You will not lose progress in your game!

After the game is removed, go back to the FB homepage and type Island Experiment in the search box. Click on the game name, then reinstall it. If at any time it asks you for permission to access your friend list, be sure to tell it yes.

That's all there is to it! You should now be able to see ALL of your FB friends on your friend bar now, starting with the ones who do play.... your non-playing friends will be all the way at the end of your bar, below all players of all ranks.

And of course, if these steps don't work, you can always Submit a Help Ticket.

Festival of Deliveries Feb 2017

Festivals are actually easy once you get the hang of them. It should automatically pop up for you when you come in to the game, but if it does not, or if you want to access it later, click the purple chest on the right side of your screen:

Once you click it, you get the Festival window. Here you see the two prize areas, how many colored rocks you've collected, how many spins you have, and how many ticket pieces you have:

The top section, from left to right, tells you how many colored rocks you have, the time you have left until you next free spin, and the little flag by the spin button tells you how many spins you have earned. To earn a spin by collecting rocks, you need to collect 300 colored rocks by opening Festival chests in the delivery hut. Every 23 hours, you also earn one free spin without having to do anything.

The bottom section shows you how many ticket pieces you have earned. You have to collect 5 of them to take a spin on the big prize section at the bottom. When you have 5, the "Play" button will light up for you and you can go spin for a big prize. Ticket pieces are earned in festival chests and by landing on them on the prize wheel in the top section.

Now, click on "To Deliveries" and it will take you to your delivery hut. You will notice that your hut looks slightly different. The usual 4 slots at the bottom are there, but now there is a slot in the top left. This is your Festival slot, and it is the most important slot during the duration of the Festival. You always want to keep this slot filled, even if there are no empty slots at the bottom. Just keep filling that top slot over and over, opening each chest as you get it. IF you have a slot at the bottom open at the same time as the festival slot, then you will get a chest in both slots... but do NOT wait for a bottom slot to open before you send your next delivery.

In this picture, my festival slot is empty, because I'm still working on one of the resources. As soon as my sand is ready, I will send the delivery, and that slot will be filled with one of three chests: wooden (1 hour to open), silver (2 hours to open) or violet (4 hours to open). Each one will have colored rocks and MAYBE a secondary gift.

Wooden chests contain 10 or 20 colored rocks
Silver chests contain 40 or 60 colored rocks
Violet chests contain 100 or 140 colored rocks

Now that I've made the delivery shown above, my delivery hut looks like this:

As you can see, I have two chests opening at the same time... a festival chest up top, and a regular chest on the bottom. You can also see that I have the next delivery ready to go for when the festival chest finishes up. Even though the bottom chest will be finished in 20 minutes, I do not plan to send the delivery then. I will wait until the festival slot is open, so that I don't have to gather materials for another one.

When you collect 300 colored rocks from the chests, an exchange button will light up on the top row of the festival window. Turn them in, and you get a spin on the wheel. When you have 1 or more spins in the flag by the "spin" button, click the spin button, and the prize wheel shows up:

The spin button at the bottom will be lit up... just click it and away the wheel goes. Give it several seconds, and it will eventually land on one of these prizes. You can then choose to either keep the prize given, or pay gems and spin again for something different. (It will not land on the same slot you just hit... that slot will be X'ed out if you respin.)

Once you have collected 5 of the ticket pieces, you can hit the Play button on the bottom section of the Festival window. When you click Play there, you get this window:

All four of these prizes are good prizes, and in addition to the prize you will also be awarded one puzzle piece toward earning the quokka pet.

IF you play long enough and hard enough, and earn enough spins, you can spin for more than one of the big prizes. The average player, though, will only enough enough ticket pieces to spin the big board one time. A lot of players never even collect 5 ticket pieces and just have to be content with the smaller prizes from the wheel.

Remember, the most important thing to remember is to ALWAYS KEEP THE FESTIVAL SLOT FILLED regardless of what's going on with the chest at the bottom.

Along the way, you will also be earning the potions and native coins shown in the delivery hut for each delivery. For instance, in the last hut picture shown above, I will be earning 10 potions and 31 native coins. The potions raise the totem meter to help you earn the normal delivery totem rewards shown on the left side of the delivery hut screen.

Best of luck, players!

ADDITIONAL INFO:

What's going on with the meter? During normal operation of the delivery hut, the meter on the left side contains 4 rewards - native coins, monkey puzzle pieces, gems, and so on. As you reach the line by each reward, you will earn that reward and it will be added to your game. During a festival, there is no room for all 4 items, so it will only show you the next item from your meter that you are working on. The number of potions you have, and the number you need to reach the reward, are shown directly below the meter. In this instance, I have 9372 potions, and I need a total of 9500 to reach the reward of 250 native coins. When I earn that, it will swap over to the next reward available on my meter. Every delivery earns you a certain amount of potions, which is shown under the delivery request on the right.

How do I post my link to get friends in Island Experiment?

If you are playing in Facebook, it's very easy to share your FB link to get friends, and you don't even have to leave the game to do it. Scroll up to the top of Facebook and find your name in the blue banner at the top right, next to your profile picture, Find Friends and Home. Right-click your name or your picture there, and from the menu choose "copy link", "copy link address" or whatever version of that phrase your browser uses. Then go to the chat box at the bottom of the chat window, click in the box, right-click again, and choose "Paste" from the menu. Your clickable link will be posted and people can now friend you so that you can send and receive gifts.

If you are playing in the Gameroom, you will need to open Facebook in your browser and go to your Facebook profile page. Click the URL box at the top so that the whole address bar is highlighted blue. Hit Ctrl-C, then go back to Gameroom. Click in the chat box and hit Ctrl-V and your link will paste into the box.

IMPORTANT:  Once you have accepted all the friend requests that have come through, you must refresh your game in order to see all your new friends on your friend bar.

What are pets for in Island Experiment?

As you play through the game, you will find yourself collecting pets. Each individual pet does not do anything by itself, but each collection of three gives you permanent bonuses. To learn how to earn each pet, click on the paw print icon in the lower left:

Then grab the icons at the top and scroll through the various collections. The bonuses you get for that collection are listed down the right side. To learn how to earn each specific animal, click the picture of it and a new window will pop up and tell you.

There are 3 types of pets: ones that can be earned just by playing the main island game, ones that are earned in the non-repeatable 15 day events, and ones that can be earned on the arch islands.  There is also one pet that can currently only be purchased with real money.

Pets that can be earned on the main island are: Raccoon, Bear Cub, Fox Cub, Kitty, Fluffy (bunny), Panda, Red Panda, Panther, Monkey, Hippo and Quokka.

Pets that can be earned on the arches are: Sheep, Parrot, Turtle, Tiger, Koala, Lumsic, Rhino and Lion Cub. Currently the rhino and lion cub are not part of a collection. (But should be in the future.)

Pets that were previously earned in 15 day events are: Owl, Husky, Chipmunk, Chicken, Elephant, Fennec Fox, Little Dragon, Dinosaur, Little Octopus, Penguin, Bat, Lemur, Reindeer, Chameleon, Pig and Corgi. Currently the corgi is not in a collection. 15 day events are not repeatable, but the game makers do plan to give people second chances at them in future, unnamed events. (Previously we were able to win them in Festivals of Deliveries but they changed those and took out the pets as prizes.)

Currently the Shar-Pei can ONLY be purchased with real money. We hope that will change in the future and that there will be some way to earn him. However, since the quokka from that collection will take many months to earn, there is no rush to buy the shar pei instead of waiting patiently.

During Valentine's Day of 2017, there was a pink Hippo available for purchase with real money. It is not in a collection, either, and has not been offered for sale since then.

Please note that all other pets besides the shar-pei that can be purchased with real money can also be earned just by being patient and playing the game.

How to submit a help ticket to support in Island Experiment

Sometimes game problems happen and you might need to submit a request for help to the support team. This is referred to as a "ticket". Asking for help is very easy. First, look at the black bar at the bottom of the screen. You should see the words Invite Friends, Official Page, and Get Help, followed by icons for the App Store and the Google Play Store to get the mobile versions. All of these are clickable links. Click on the words Get Help, and a dialogue box will pop up. Inside the box you can choose what sort of issue you're having from the drop down box at the top. You can also send suggestions from this form. Fill out the form with a description of your problem, question or suggestion and include your email. If you are having a game issue that can be visually shown, include a screenshot of your problem by attaching it to the form. If not, leave the attachment box alone. Submit your request, then wait for a reply. You will first get an automated reply from Nexters, letting you know that they received it, and it will usually be 1-2 days before you get a personal reply from a Support team member. Do not send additional tickets on the same issue before receiving your reply from them.

Please remember that Nexters is a Russian company, and they have to have people translate the issues. Sometimes they do not understand what people have submitted to them, but usually they do a good job. (In English at least... I can't speak for Support in other languages.) You may find it necessary to continue speaking with them via the email exchange once they have replied to you in order to further explain your issue.

Some people, for some reason, do not have the Get Help button at the bottom of their game screen. Others may have it but the form does not pop up. If that is the case, then you can go HERE and submit a ticket through their website.

MOBILE PLAYERS:  Click the gear wheel in the bottom left corner of your game screen. Below the sliders for setting sound levels is a help button. Click that and follow the screen provided.

How to use the sonar in Island Experiment

One of the items you can buy from the regular shop is called the Sonar. This is an item that spits out piles of gold coins every few minutes. If you leave them alone, you can have up to 6 piles scattered about your island. Coin piles are placed randomly all over the visible parts of your island; it's your job to go find them and collect them. Sometimes, however, the piles end up behind things and are hard to see. Luckily, the sonar has a "find" feature. When your sonar has an exclamation mark over it:

Just click the sonar and you will be zipped over to where one pile is sitting. If you don't see it at first, zoom your game in all the way and look. If you still don't see it, turn on the green X move tool. Coin piles are movable, so they will be brightly lit. If the pile is behind a non-movable object, simply grab the pile and move it out to plain ground and then you will be able to collect it. If you don't see the pile, but a movable building is in the center of your screen, move the building and look behind it for the pile.

There is also a "super sonar" that can be purchased occasionally with real money. It works exactly the same way as the regular one but the coin piles are larger.

The more often you collect coin piles, the less likely they are to hide behind things. If you ever reach the point where you don't really need the money generated by the sonar, you can just leave the coin piles scattered about, or you can move them to one spot and decorate with them.

Where do I get gears to upgrade the warehouse in Island Experiment?

After the first few upgrades on the warehouse, it will start needing gears to upgrade, as well as coins. It's a long, slow process to gather enough to make upgrades to the warehouse, and it gets longer as time goes on. Your main source of gears will be the fallen satellite; if you have not reached it yet, keep working the quests and you will uncover it very soon.

You get one gear per 24 hours from the fallen satellite, and one every 5 days from the daily bonus. (More from the daily bonus if you have VIP status.) There is one chest later in the game that has a couple in it, and some of the "real money" offers of various buildings and statues sometimes include a batch of gears as a one-time bonus with purchase.

The wooden houses also take one gear to upgrade from level 3 to level 4, and the research station takes one to get to level 3 and one to get to level 4. Some players prefer to leave those upgrades alone and use their gears only on their warehouse, at least until the warehouse is level 25. (Level 25 warehouse earns you the panda pet.) Other players prefer to go ahead and spend those gears and get the higher coin payout from the station and the houses. There is no "better" way to do it... it's up to you.

The following picture shows you where the fallen satellite is. Please note that many items will not match your own island because my items have been moved around. For reference's sake, I've included notes of where the beach and the bridge are at, since those are things that can't move.

Later in the game, there will be a chest that contains two gears... this chest has no key, it will have to be opened with gems if you want them. Click on the chest and it will show you the contents, don't just open every chest you see.

Two other potential sources of gears are the Cave of Plenty and the Wheel of Fortune. Both of these are offered to players as special offers in rotation on the right side of the game screen. These both cost REAL money, and in both of them, gears are RARE and random. If you want to spend your money on them fine, but be aware that gears are only one of several potential rewards from those buildings, and you will not get very many gears from them.

How many workers can I have in Island Experiment?

Every player should start the game with 3 workers: Jules, Diana and Albert. Jules looks sort of like Mr. T, Diana is blonde, and Albert is an older guy wearing a lab coat. If you do not have all three of these workers when you first start playing, contact support immediately.

In a later quest involving a spider cave you will earn one more worker, David, a young guy who wears glasses. You will blow up a spider cave, Diana will lose her hearing, and when you fix her hearing, she will hear cries for help. You will soon find out that David is trapped in a spider web and needs to be freed. Once you free him, he will be your worker for the rest of the game. (Note: do NOT go around knocking down every spider web you see, looking for him. He will only be trapped when that quest comes, you cannot get to him sooner.)

Later in the game you will eventually come to an arch island side quest called "Timenarium". If you can complete all the islands in this set you will earn Carrie, a dark haired girl, as a new worker. This arch set is very hard to do, and the only way to complete it is with gems. If you are careful and save your gems before you get to that point, you can easily have enough to finish the set. Most people need around 150-200 gems, possibly more if you don't get to play very often.

This makes a total of 5 workers that you can get for free in the game, if you play your cards right and use your gems wisely to get the Timenarium worker.

The week after Christmas, 2017, the game offered Ling as a lottery prize, or to be purchased with real money:

At any time, you can buy one worker with real money, and the cost does sometimes vary. Sometimes you will see an offer pop up on your game, and that offer usually has a bonus with it of some kind, like a few gems with purchase. If you don't get a pop up though, you can always buy one by setting all your characters to work then clicking the worker icon at the top left. It should first pop up an offer to sell you a worker before showing you where all your workers are busy. (Note: this is not working for every player for some reason. But it should for most. If you want to buy one and it is not working for you, contact support.)

Occasionally, even if you have bought one worker with real money, you will get a second offer to buy another one with real money. This offer will pop up on your screen, and the icon will stay on the right side of your screen for several hours, up to a day perhaps. Once that offer is gone, you will have to wait for it again if you want to buy another one.

You will sometimes see players with more than the 8 workers already described. There was a Festival of Deliveries a few months ago that had a worker named Sandy as one of the top prizes, and some people won her. In addition, some of the players who have been here for a long, long time will have more workers. Some started the game with 4 workers rather than 3, and some of the very first players started with even more than that. Generally speaking though, 9 is the most you will hear about from current, long-term players.

Daily rewards in Island Experiment

Every day, one minute after you log in, the game will give you a free daily reward. This is a list of 5 items that rotates through, one at a time, over and over. If you miss a day, the list will start over again at the beginning, so even if you don't have time to play on a particular day, try to at least log in for long enough to collect the daily reward. Each day you will get 75 coins, 20 food, 5 shovels, 1 gem or 1 gear for your warehouse upgrades.

Just log in and look on the right side of the screen for the calendar page with a big "5" on it. Sometimes you may have to scroll through the icons on the right.... too many icons can cause it to get hidden and you might miss it.

If you have VIP status (gained by purchasing gem packages with real money) you can get double, triple and even quadruple daily rewards.

How to move faster on Island Experiment side islands

On the main island, whenever you click an item, your character pops over there immediately and starts working. This does not hold true on the side events.... the 15 day events and the archipelago island events. There are 3 ways that you can make things work faster on these islands:

1. Get the Jungle Collection pet collection. This is the collection that you earn by collecting puzzle pieces by doing deliveries in the delivery hut (market) on your beach. Unfortunately, this takes several months to complete even if you're working hard at it. But when you do earn all three pets in the collection, your workers will have "instant movement" just like they have on the main island. In the mean time, there are two things you can do to speed things up if you don't have that collection.

2. For short walks on the side islands, use the game zoom to zoom in the screen all the way. You can either use your mouse's scroll wheel if you have one, or go up to the top left and click the magnifying glass with the plus on it. Zooming in will cause your character to walk faster.

3. For long walks, click your destination and then refresh your game page. When it reloads, your character will be at the destination.

BONUS TIP: If you move around the island and then lose track of where your character went, click the worker icon in the lower right corner and your game will zip right over to where your character is standing:

How move things in Island Experiment (main island and deco island)

TO MOVE THINGS FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER ON THE MAIN ISLAND:

Go to the lower left corner of the game screen and click the green X move tool.

Click and hold on the item you want to move, then just drag it to wherever you want it. It will turn green if the space is large enough for it, red if there is not enough space. Let go of the mouse and click the check mark. You can continue to move as many buildings as you want, and when you are done, go back to the lower left corner and click the CLOSE button to turn off Move Mode.

You can also use the move options to rotate buildings so that a different side shows. Just click the blue circle arrow and it will turn.

Some items can be destroyed with the bulldozer icon, but it will COST you either coins or gems to do so. (Some items do not even have that option.) Buildings always cost gems to destroy, and there is no reason to destroy them since they are part of your Master Builder Trophy. If you don't like the look of a building, just move it away from your main area so that you don't have to see it all the time.

TO MOVE ITEMS FROM THE MAIN ISLAND TO THE DECORATION ISLAND:

Once again, click the green X move tool. Now, look in the lower right corner of the screen and you will see a chest icon. Click that.

Once you have clicked the chest icon, any building that is movable to the deco island will have a chest bubble over the top of it. Click the chest bubble and your item will go into inventory. This is also a good way to temporarily store items when you are trying to rearrange your main island.

After you have put all the buildings you want to move into the inventory, hit the Close button in the lower left corner.

Now go down to your beach area and click on the silver yacht there. You do not need a free worker to go on the deco island boat. Your main island will fade out and the deco island will open up for you.

Once there, click on the inventory chest and remove your items.

You can also buy items while you are on the deco island so that you don't have to move them back and forth. Just click the hammer and saw icon and purchase the items you want and place directly.

To move items back to the main island, just do the same thing... green X move tool, then the chest icon on the right. Go back to the main island and remove from the inventory chest.

You will also notice that the deco islands are covered in fog. You open up more space on the deco islands by earning map tables in 15 day events and in Festivals, and one space can be opened by earning the Traveler's Collection of pets.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO AUTOMATIC COLLECTION OF COINS OR XP WHEN ITEMS ARE PLACED ON THE DECO ISLAND. IF YOU WISH TO COLLECT FROM THESE BUILDINGS, YOU WILL NEED TO TRAVEL THERE AND COLLECT THEM.

IF YOU HAVE THE ONE-CLICK BONUS FROM THE HOLIDAY COLLECTION, IT DOES WORK HERE, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO TRAVEL TO THE DECO ISLAND AND CLICK ONE ITEM TO USE IT. CLICKING SOMETHING ON THE MAIN ISLAND WILL NOT COLLECT ANYTHING ON THE DECO ISLAND AT THE SAME TIME.

Island Experiment help groups

There are many, many help groups for IEx players. There is one official group, and then many smaller groups run by players who just enjoy the game and want to talk to other players. I'm only going to list the Official Group here, and a number of groups that are in other languages besides English. The game chat is predominately English speaking, so it can be difficult for non-English speaking players to get the help they need there.

OFFICIAL GROUP:

This is a Facebook group, and you should be aware that the group settings are set on "Public" so anything you post there can potentially show up in the newsfeeds of any of your friends:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/IslandExperiment.OfficialGroup/

OFFICIAL PAGE:

Players can post on this page, but it is not intended as a help page. Instead its primary purpose is to share news and the two daily freebies. In order to get freebies, make sure you click the link for the OLDEST freebie first, within the last 24 hours. If you click an afternoon link first and then try to get the morning freebie, the morning link will not work. You can also access this page via the black bar at the bottom of the game screen:
